Great River Chorale Celebrates American Music
with Student Honor Choirs from St. Joseph and Elk River on May 5, 2013

Great River Chorale will present a rousing celebration of American music in its concert The Great American Sing featuring Great River Chorale with special guests The Kennedy Colts Honor Choir from Kennedy Community School, St. Joseph, and The Mustang Choir from Meadowvale Elementary School, Elk River. Music to be presented includes famous folksongs such as Shenandoah and Cindy, traditional African-American spirituals including Ezekiel Saw de Wheel and Daniel, Daniel, Servant of the Lord, songs by great American composers including Aaron Copland, Stephen Foster, and Charles Ives, and patriotic favorites on which the audience will sing along. Each of the student honor choirs will present solo sets in the concert and will join together on partner songs in addition to singing with Great River Chorale.
The concert will be led by Great River Chorale artistic director and conductor Mary Kay Geston, Kristen Mattick, director of The Kennedy Colts Honor Choir, and Samuel Eckberg, director of The Mustang Choir, and will be held Sunday, May 5 at 4:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 4310 County Road 137, St. Cloud. Tickets for The Great American Sing are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors aged 65 and older, $5 for students, and $40 for families from one household (two adults and two or more children). Great River Chorale is a forty-five voice auditioned community choir based in St. Cloud that seeks to enrich the community and enhance the cultural life of central Minnesota and beyond with performances of choral music of all eras and genres at the highest level of musical excellence. The choir was founded in 2001 and is dedicated to musical collaborations with arts organizations from across Minnesota. Great River Chorale has been named an official collaborative partner of the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra and will perform in two concerts with the symphony as part of the SCSO’s 2013-14 concert season.
